Cyclones rally past Falcons
HARLAN -- The outside shooting of Blake Goshorn and Brett Sears spearheaded a 15-1 second-half run Friday night as the Harlan Community boys basketball team erased a 10-point deficit and beat St. Albert 65-53 in its first game of the new year.
Goshorn hit two three-pointers late in the third quarter, including one at the buzzer to pull HCHS within 41-38, and Sears drilled three treys early in the fourth. The Cyclones pulled away at the free throw line down the stretch, making 22-of-33 foul shots for the game compared to the Falcons’ 4-of-9.
HCHS evened its record at 4-4 overall and 2-2 inside the Hawkeye Ten Conference while St. Albert dropped to 3-6 and 2-3, respectively.
The Cyclones led 17-11 in the second quarter before St. Albert rattled off 12 straight points and went to the locker room with a 25-23 advantage. The Falcons added a 15-3 run in the third quarter to go up by 10.
Sears scored 13 of his game-high 19 points in the fourth quarter and also tied Johnathan Monson for team-high honors with seven rebounds. Connor Bruck finished with 13 points, followed by Taymon Klinkefus with 10, Monson and Jake McLaughlin eight each and Goshorn six. Monson added five assists.
