Cyclones outlast Falcons in O.T.

HARLAN (Feb. 6) -- Knocking down 13-of-16 free throws during the fourth quarter and overtime, the Harlan Community boys basketball team survived 36 hard-fought minutes to outlast St. Albert 69-68 Tuesday night and avoid a third straight home loss.
HCHS also beat the Falcons 64-61 on January 5.
The rematch featured 10 lead changes and three ties in the fourth quarter alone, capped by Matt Fagan’s game-tying put-back for St. Albert with :01.8 to go. The Cyclones executed their “home run” play before time expired, but Shane Chamberlain’s 15-footer was off the mark and the game went to O.T.
HCHS led most of the way during the extra session and kept St. Albert at bay as Chamberlain and Jared Moser combined for eight points down the stretch. Falcon senior guard Jake Carley, who scored 10 of his 14 points during the fourth period and O.T., hit a three at the horn to make it a one-point final score.
The charity stripe played a big role in the outcome as Harlan hit 19-of-26 free throws and St. Albert was just 3-of-7.
Chamberlain was 8-of-9 at the line and finished with a game-high 28 points, also making 4-of-7 three-pointers. Three of those treys came in the second quarter as the Cyclones - trailing 25-11 - used a 16-2 run to tie the score.
Fagan, a powerful 6-foot-5 post player, totaled 18 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Falcons, who dropped to 11-8 overall.
