Cyclone wrestlers 8-0 at Mount Ayr
MOUNT AYR (Jan. 12) -- The Harlan Community wrestling team finished a perfect 8-0 at Mount Ayr’s Ron Scott Memorial Dual Tournament last weekend, claiming its third team title of the season and improving its record to 20-2 overall.
Cyclone seniors Oscar Olmos (145 pounds), Joey Arkfeld (220) and Derec Weyer (285) each finished 8-0 with four pins to earn a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
One-loss wrestlers for HCHS included Wyatt Obrecht at 132 (6-1, 3 pins), Carter Bendorf at 170 (7-1, 4 pins) and Nathan Henry at 182/195 (7-1, 3 pins). Ethan Lemon (126) and Jesse Schwery (182/195) both finished 6-2.
HCHS rallied to beat Lathrop (ranked third in Missouri’s small-school class) 36-33 in its first dual of the tournament on Friday, then rattled off seven more wins Friday and Saturday by much more decisive scores.
“We had a great two days,” stated HCHS head coach John Murtaugh. “When you look up the definition of the word ‘team’ you should see a picture of our guys. They care for each other and they wrestle hard for one another."
