Cyclone volleyball team 3-3 at Western Christian

 HULL (Oct. 6) -- The Harlan Community volleyball team finished with a match record of 3-3 and essentially placed sixth out of 11 teams at last Saturday’s Kooima/Kaemingk Tournament at Western Christian.
 HCHS placed third in Pool A with a 3-2 record before facing top-ranked (Class 4A) Sergeant Bluff-Luton, which placed third in Pool B. The Warriors won the crossover game 21-13, 23-21.
 The Cyclones started the day by facing two other state-ranked teams, losing to No. 3 (2A) Western Christian (9-21, 12-21) and No. 11 (4A) Bishop Heelan (23-25, 21-13, 13-15). They then won three straight matches over Dakota Valley (21-8, 21-6), Des Moines Christian (21-18, 23-21) and Sioux City East (17-21, 21-12, 15-7).
 HCHS served 91 percent on the day with 27 aces in 14 sets and had a team kill efficiency of .196. Hayley Hopkins led the way with 14 aces, followed by Kara Weis with six (39/41) and Haley Manz with four (43/46). Kill leaders included Olivia Petersen with 34 (.478 efficiency), Anna Ahrenholtz 27 (.200), Hopkins 25 (.114), Macie Leinen 14 (.200) and Zophi Hendricks 12 (.050). Weis set 108 of the team’s 109 assists and Ashley Hall had 55 digs.
