Cyclone track teams win outdoor opener at Carroll

 CARROLL (March 21) -- The Harlan Community track teams won a combined 23 events on Thursday, both placing first at the Carroll Co-Ed Early Bird Invite in the first outdoor meet of the season.
 The HCHS girls won 10 of 18 events - the discus was not held - and scored 110 points to finish well ahead of Boone (47), Carroll (46) and Kuemper Catholic (44). The boys meet included just three teams and was also dominated by the Cyclones, who won 13 of 18 events and scored 95 points.
 HCHS sophomore Michael Erlemeier had an outstanding meet with three individual golds and a fourth in the 4x100 relay. Erlemeier won the long jump with a quality early-season mark of 21 feet, 10 inches, then added wins in the 400-meter dash (52.05) and the 200 (23.85) - all on personal bests.
 Additional Cyclone golds were earned by Trey Gross in the 3,200 (10:49.09, PR), Eli Boldan in the 100 dash (11.82, PR), Thomas Fah in the 110 hurdles (16.9, PR) and Jon Owens in the 400 hurdles (59.19).
 The HCHS boys also won six out of seven relays on the day, highlighted by a time of 1:35.13 by the 4x200 quartet of Mason Griffith, Connor Bruck, Boldan and Johnathan Monson.
 The Cyclone girls’ 10 gold medals included five relays and five individual events. One of the most impressive performances was posted by the 4x200 squad of Delaney Wegner, Savanna Musich, Grace Eckermann and Chloe Hansen, who combined for a winning time of 1:50.99 - more than two seconds faster than last year’s best. HCHS also won the 4x800, shuttle hurdle, distance medley and 4x400 relays.
 Individual golds were earned by Greichaly Kaster in the 3,000 (12:01.26), freshman Savanna Musich in the 100 dash (13.60), Abby Alberti in the 400 (1:05.58), freshman Kaia Bieker in the 800 (2:40.81) and Olivia Anderson in the 1,500 (5:40.58).
