Cyclone tennis girls searching for early-season wins

HARLAN -- The number two doubles team of Nicole Lange and Brooke Nelson picked up Harlan Community’s first varsity win of the season here Tuesday (April 11) as the Cyclone tennis girls lost an 8-1 dual decision vs. Lewis Central. HCHS also lost its season opener at Denison-Schleswig last Thursday, falling 9-0.
Lange and Nelson teamed up for an 8-5 victory over the LC tandem of Taylor Johnson and Madison Davis, but the Titans controlled the dual overall. The closest singles match came in the No. 3 spot as HCHS senior Haley Swisher battled Johnson to a 6-8 decision.
The Cyclones and Monarchs played best-of-three sets at Denison last week, with D-S winning all nine varsity matches 2-0. Lange and Nelson nearly took a set from Rachelle Heilesen and Jazlyn Beeck but fell short in a tiebreaker, 6-7 (6-8).
