Cyclone netters notch quality win over Cardinals

HARLAN -- It was arguably one of the top-quality wins of the year for the Harlan Community volleyball team.
Starting strong and finishing in the same manner, the Cyclones needed just four sets to take down a Clarinda team above them in the Hawkeye Ten standings Thursday night, winning 25-16, 25-23, 20-25, 25-16.
HCHS served just under 96 percent with seven aces (to just four errors) and compiled a kill efficiency of .265 against an opponent whose only previous conference losses were five-setters vs. Lewis Central and Red Oak.
The Cyclones improved to 4-4 in the H-10 (11-13 overall) while Clarinda is now 5-3 and 19-9, respectively.
“This was a good night for us,” said HCHS head coach Angie Spangenberg. “I thought at times it was a little too much out of system or got a little bit sloppy with skills, but to our credit we came back and we stayed aggressive and finished. That’s what this team needs to do is finish ... Clarinda is a good ball club.”
