Cyclone girls place second at Le Mars Bowling Tourney

HCHS boys finish fourth in tough field; Stein and Swank earn medals

 LE MARS (Jan. 26) -- The Harlan Community girls placed second and the boys took fourth in last Saturday’s Le Mars Bowling Tournament, both posting their season-best team scores at Sweet 16 Lanes.
 Le Mars swept the team titles on the day, including a 2,878 score by the girls, who were led by Kaitelin Konz’s first-place individual series of 407 (215-192). HCHS placed second out of six teams with a 2,481 and Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson (2,449) was third.
 The Bulldog boys were paced by individual champion Evan Berkenpas’ 513 series (279-234) and scored a winning total of 3,218, followed by Thomas Jefferson (3,119), OA-BCIG (2,962) and HCHS (2,734).
 Cyclone individual medalists included Darren Stein’s second-place score of 465 (213-252) for the boys and Abby Swank’s third-place 391 (194-197) for the girls.
 The HCHS girls placed four bowlers in the top 10 as Ania Kaster (8th) and Jayden Gessert (9th) both rolled a 365 and Madison Horn (10th) had a 363. The Cyclone boys’ next three scores all landed in the top 20: Jacob Dotzler 402 (14th), William Funke 390 (16th) and Samuel Andersen 376 (20th).
