Cyclone girls leave Drake hungry for more

DES MOINES -- Harlan Community seniors Gillian Streit and Allison Bruck competed with the best of the best at the 2017 Drake Relays this past weekend.
And although neither girl worked their way into medalist contention in their feature event, both were happy to be a part of “America’s Athletic Classic” and firmly focused on their goals for the rest of the season.
Streit finished 16th out of 24 qualifiers in the discus on Thursday afternoon, throwing 112 feet, one inch on her only measurable throw.
Bruck finished 17th out of 32 qualifiers in Friday morning’s 100-meter hurdles prelims, clocking a time of 15.62 seconds that placed her fourth in Heat 3. The cutoff mark for advancing to the event final was 15.13.
Bruck also ran a leg of the Cyclone girls’ 4x100 relay late Friday afternoon, teaming with juniors Sidney Craig and Alyssa Sotelo and sophomore Chloe Hansen. The HCHS quartet ran an unofficial time of 52.40 seconds (61st out of 80 qualifiers) but was disqualified for running out of their lane.
