Cyclone girls advance behind third-quarter charge

Trailing by seven at halftime, HCHS outscores A-D-M 23-11 in third, wins 4-A regional opener 54-49

ADEL -- At halftime of Wednesday night’s Class 4-A regional quarterfinal, the outlook wasn’t exactly glowing for the Harlan Community girls basketball team.
Struggling offensively without injured point guard Lexi Larsen, the Cyclones were turning the ball over too often, shooting 2-of-10 at the free throw line and trailing Adel-DeSoto-Minburn 24-17 on the scoreboard.
But all of that was about to change in quarter number three.
Sparked by the outside shooting of Alyssa Wyman, Bailey Hansen, Allison Bruck and Nicole Lange, HCHS outscored A-D-M 23-11 in the third quarter, then answered a Tiger rally in the fourth and hit enough late free throws to secure a 54-49 road victory.
The Cyclones survived 19 total turnovers and improved to 11-10 overall, setting up a Region 8 semifinal game at 12th-ranked Ballard (15-5)  on Saturday night in Huxley. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
