Cyclone frustrations vs. Rams continue in 1-0 defeat

Glenwood still has HCHS boys’ number in tight matches; Cyclones suffer first loss of 2016 season

OMAHA, NEB. -- For the Harlan Community boys soccer team, frustrating losses to Glenwood - often by one or two goals - have become an almost annual occurrence as the Cyclones strive to narrow the gap between themselves and one of southwest Iowa’s top programs.
Playing under the lights of Creighton University’s Morrison Stadium Thursday night, HCHS once again fell just short of a landmark victory against its top Hawkeye Ten rival, losing 1-0 in a matchup of state-ranked teams.
Kaleb Gammon’s game-winning goal crossed just beyond the reach of Cyclone goalie Keaton Jones in the 51st minute, lifting the 9th-ranked (2-A) Rams to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
The 16th-ranked Cyclones, who had a couple of near-miss goal opportunities throughout the match, suffered their first loss of the year and now stand at 4-1 overall and 2-1 in the conference.
