Cyclone boys rolling toward postseason play

Fink hat trick highlights 11th shutout win as HCHS improves to 13-1; Substate opener Monday night

HARLAN -- It was a night of firsts for the Harlan Community boys soccer team Monday (May 15) as the Cyclones overcame a slow start to beat Creston 5-0 at Merrill Field.
HCHS junior Tanner Fink scored the team’s first three goals to record his first-ever hat trick and the team’s first of the season. Later, junior Rolly Lokange and sophomore Kyle Knudson both scored their first varsity goals in a span of two minutes and 18 seconds.
The defensive shutout, meanwhile, was nothing new as the 16th-ranked (2-A) Cyclones have now blanked 11 teams en route to a 13-1 record with just two regular-season games remaining. HCHS wrapped up Hawkeye Ten Conference play with a mark of 6-1, clinching at least a tie for second place in the league standings.
Cyclone head coach Dave Voge said it was nice to get everybody on the varsity bench some playing time as the team continues a busy stretch of six games in 12 days to wind down the regular season.
After needing more than 37 minutes to break a scoreless tie in the first half - with the wind in their favor - the Cyclones scored four times in the second half going into the wind.
