Cordes pitches Vikings past Audubon in WIC Baseball Tourney

AHSTW tops Wheelers 2-0 before losing to top-seeded Treynor in semis

AUDUBON -- AHSTW senior Anthony Cordes outshined Audubon’s Tyler Riebhoff in a classic pitchers duel Monday night (June 26) as the fifth-seeded Vikings topped the fourth-seeded Wheelers 2-0 in the quarterfinal round of the Western Iowa Conference Baseball Tournament.
Cordes (2-3) took a no-hitter into the seventh inning that was broken up by Micky Williamson’s leadoff single. The veteran left-hander allowed just one other base runner in the game - a hit-by-pitch - and finished his impressive one-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts.
Riebhoff (2-3), meanwhile fanned 14 Viking batters in a complete game four-hitter, walking three and allowing just two first-inning runs. Neither team committed an error.
R.J. Harris had two of the Vikings’ four hits, driving in Blake Osbahr for the first run and also scoring to make it 2-0. Osbahr, Harris and Blaine Lees all stole two bases for AHSTW, which had eight total steals.
