Clay starts season with four-win night at Audubon meet

AUDUBON -- Gage Clay took home four gold medals for AHSTW and Evan Wilson picked up a win for Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton Tuesday night as both teams opened their outdoor track season at the Audubon Boys Early Bird Invite.
Clay, last year’s third-place medalist in the 2-A state 100-meter dash, started 2017 in strong fashion by winning the 100 in 11.38 seconds and clocking 23.21 to win the 200. He also anchored the Vikings’ 4x200 and 4x100 relays to victory, teaming with Sam Peterson, Cordale Armstrong, Jake Martin and R.J. Harris.
Although no team scores were tabulated at the meet, AHSTW did place 11 times in nine events, including second-place finishes by Spencer Symanowicz in the shot put and Dalton Fischer in the 3,200-meter run.
Wilson, who missed most of the cross country season last fall due to injury, opened track season with a winning time of 10:40.47 in the 3,200. The Spartans placed in six events as a team, including four relays.
Both AHSTW and Exira-EHK will return to action Monday for the Jerome Howe Relays at Treynor.
