Clay, Schueman to represent AHSTW at state meet

TREYNOR -- AHSTW sophomore Gage Clay qualified two events for state while Lady Vike junior Jaycie Schueman advanced in one event at Thursday’s Class 2-A Co-Ed State Qualifying Track Meet in Treynor.
Clay, who placed 12th in the Drake Relays’ 100-meter dash last month, won both the 100 and 200-meter sprints on Thursday, including a new personal-best time of 22.48 seconds in the 200. His winning time in the 100 was 11.23. A first-time state meet qualifier, Clay will compete in both state prelim races Thursday at Drake Stadium.
Schueman, who competed in both individual hurdle events at state as a freshman, will return to Des Moines after a one-year absence. She earned an at-large state qualifier spot in the 100-meter hurdles after placing fourth at Treynor with a time of 16.73. She also placed fourth in the 400 hurdles with a personal-best time of 1:09.54, but did not qualify in that event. Her 100 hurdles prelim race is slated for Friday morning.
