Clay, Schueman lead area charge at Missouri Valley 2-A State Qualifier

AHSTW, IKM-M teams qualify 10 events for State

 MISSOURI VALLEY -- AHSTW and IKM-Manning combined to qualify 10 events for state Thursday night (May 11) while competing in the Class 2-A Co-Ed State Qualifying Track Meet held at Missouri Valley.
 The Viking boys led the area contingent with five qualifiers, the AHSTW and IKM-M girls both qualified two events and the IKM-M boys had one qualifier. All 10 state entries qualified automatically by placing first or second in the district.
 The 12-school meet showcased five athletes who won two individual gold medals, with two of them hailing from AHSTW.
 Viking junior Gage Clay is a 2-A state title contender in the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash after placing in the top three of both events last season. Clay won both of the short sprints on Thursday, clocking the second-fastest qualifying time in the 100 (personal-best 10.99 seconds) and the fourth-fastest qualifying time in the 200 (22.63).
 Another double-winner was Lady Vike senior Jaycie Schueman, who will be seeking her first state medal as she competes in the 100-meter hurdles and the 400-meter hurdles. Schueman improved her ‘PR’ in the 400 hurdles to 1:07.94 Thursday (7th-fastest qualifying time) and matched her best time in the 100 hurdles at 16.22.
 Also winning district gold medals were IKM-Manning junior Shyanne Sporrer in the 800-meter run as well as the Wolves’ 4x800 relay team of Payton Sporrer, Gabby Cadwell, Kia Rasmussen and Shyanne Sporrer.
 IKM-Manning junior Jared Johnson, meanwhile, qualified for the state high jump by clearing an even six feet for second place.
 AHSTW’s AJ Sieh joined the list of state qualifiers by placing second in the discus with a throw of 139-2.
 The Viking boys also qualified two relays for state as the 4x200 placed first and the 4x100 took second.
