Cheek receives Scholar-Athlete Award from NFF

 DES MOINES -- The National Football Foundation - Iowa Chapter - announced May 1 that Harlan Community senior Joshua Cheek has been selected as one of 11 winners of the 2017 Scholar-Athlete Award. This award recognizes high school football players who have demonstrated a commitment to excellence on the field, in the classroom and in their communities.
 “The young men who are chosen by our Iowa Chapter are not only good football players, some of the best; however, just as importantly, if not more so, they are outstanding students and good citizens of their communities,” stated Bob Holliday, Board Member of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame, Iowa Chapter.
 Cheek has excelled in each of the categories required for the 2017 NFF Scholar-Athlete Award. Qualifying graduating seniors must have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.75, scored 28 or higher on the ACT, been named to an All-District football team during their career and display leadership positions in school or in the community. Cheek was nominated by Harlan Community Activities  Director Mitch Osborn.
