Cheek named Academic All-State

 DES MOINES -- Harlan Community senior Joshua Cheek was recognized as a 2017 First Team Academic All-State selection earlier this month by the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association. Cheek was honored at the IHSBCA’s All-Star Banquet on Saturday, August 5, at the Sheraton Hotel Banquet Center in West Des Moines.
 The 31st All-Academic Team included 46 seniors (24 on first team) selected by a panel of coaches for their demonstration of outstanding academic, moral and athletic characteristics. Additional first-team selections from southwest Iowa include Reece Blay (Lewis Central), Colton Lenz (Coon Rapids-Bayard) and Kendrick Umphreys (Treynor).
 Earlier during the 2016-17 school year, Cheek was also named Academic All-State by the Iowa Football Coaches Association and the Iowa Basketball Coaches Association.
