Catching up with Cundiff

Billy Cundiff Q&A

CEDAR FALLS (Nov. 17) -- Former Harlan Community High School, Drake University and National Football League kicker Billy Cundiff will be back in Iowa this week when he joins the Iowa High School Athletic Association’s Football Players Hall of Fame Friday night at halftime of the Class 4A state title game between Dowling Catholic and Iowa City West inside the UNI-Dome.
Cundiff answered several questions from the Harlan Newspapers earlier this week about his long NFL career, his playing days at HCHS and life after football in Arizona.
BILLY CUNDIFF Q&A
Q: It’s been a few years since you last kicked in the NFL. How bittersweet was it to officially retire earlier this year and close the books on your professional career?
BC: In 2015 I knew the end was near, so I enrolled in grad school at (Arizona State). That fall I had seven tryouts and was lucky to play one game with the Bills. Grad school gave me the opportunity to move on to my next career. I processed all the emotions of my career ending at that time. I’m not going to lie - I still miss the competitive environment and game day, but I have transitioned into the next season of my life and I am enjoying all the time I get with my family.

The full Q&A was published in the Nov. 17 Harlan News-Advertiser.
