Burmeister passes 1,000 points for Exira-EHK

Spartans beat Woodbine 98-75, improve to 18-2

ELK HORN (Feb. 4) -- It was a good night for offense here Monday as the Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton boys nearly hit the century mark and point guard Cole Burmeister became the second Spartan senior this season to reach 1,000 career points.
When it was all said and done, four Exira-EHK players scored at least 20 points as the 10th-ranked (1A) Spartans beat Woodbine 98-75 to finish 14-2 in Rolling Valley Conference play, placing second to Ar-We-Va.
Josh Pettepier hit seven 3-pointers for E-EHK (18-2 overall) to account for all 21 of his points. Burmeister led the way with 24 points, Trever Schulz had 23 and Dakota Rold added 21.
Early in the third quarter, Burmeister hit a pair of free throws to surpass the 1,000-point mark, which Rold achieved on January 8.
“Cole has been making things happen here for a long time,” said E-EHK head coach Doug Newton of his point guard. “His offensive abilities bring an aspect to the game that is hard for our opponents to prepare for. He has really done a nice job during his career to develop himself into an all-around player. He does far more than score, but this milestone certainly is one he should take pride in.”
Woodbine enjoyed a nice offensive game as well, making 13-of-25 threes overall, including 6-of-7 by Cuy Meeker and 3-of-3 by Alex Bantam.
Prior to the game, the Spartans’ talented and accomplished senior class was recognized as part of Senior Night. The group includes Rold, Burmeister, Pettepier, Schulz, Trey Nelson and Ian Leader.
