Bruns goes 0-2 in state meet debut

DES MOINES -- Just like several other area athletes at the 2017 State Wrestling Tournament, it didn’t take long for Cole Bruns to run into a state title contender in his 170-pound, Class 1-A bracket.
Making his first-ever state meet appearance, the Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton senior drew 2nd-ranked Taylan Entriken in Thursday’s first round and was pinned in 1:03. Entriken, a Hudson senior, went on to claim a 1-A state championship Saturday night.
Bruns made it to the second period in his first-round consolation match but was unable to score, losing by fall to Rockford’s Dakota Vance in 2:25. He bowed out with an 0-2 state meet record and finished his final season at 33-19.
