Bruck wins hurdles gold at BVU Elite meet

 STORM LAKE -- Led by Allison Bruck’s gold in the 60-meter hurdles, area athletes combined to earn top-three medals in nine events at the BVU High School Elite track meets held Friday and Saturday on the Dennis Young Indoor Track.
 The two-day event saw Harlan Community and AHSTW compete on Friday while IKM-Manning attended Saturday’s portion of the meet.
 Bruck, an HCHS senior, won the girls’ 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.70 and also helped the Cyclones place second in the 4x200 relay and fifth in the shuttle hurdle relay. The 4x200 squad also included Sidney Craig, Chloe Hansen and Enya Fleshman. The HCHS girls also placed fourth in the 4x800 while senior Gillian Streit threw the shot put 37 feet, two inches for third place.
 The AHSTW girls had one top-10 finish as senior Jaycie Schueman finished seventh in the 60 hurdles.
 In Friday’s boys meet, HCHS junior Nick Foss took third in the long jump with a new career best of 21 feet and was also fifth in the 60-meter dash. The Cyclones added a fifth-place finish in the medley relay.
 AHSTW was led by Gage Clay’s third-place time of 7.24 seconds in the 60-meter dash. Spencer Symanowicz tied for ninth in the shot put.
 The highlight for the IKM-Manning girls Saturday came in the 800 run, where Shyanne Sporrer placed second with a time of 2:34.57 and Kia Rasmussen was third in 2:36.23. The Wolves also medaled in the 4x400 relay as Payton Sporrer, Gabrielle Cadwell, Rasmussen and Shyanne Sporrer placed third in 4:30.28. Other top finishes included Sydney Wegner’s fifth-place showing in the shot put, a sixth-place shuttle hurdle relay and Payton Sporrer taking seventh in the 1,500.
 The IKM-M boys had four finishes in the top eight, led by Jared Johnson’s third-place leap of six feet in the high jump. The Wolves placed fourth in the medley relay, seventh in the 4x200 and eighth in the shuttle hurdle relay.
