Baughman’s HCHS volleyball practices underway

 HARLAN -- The Harlan Community volleyball team opened preseason practices on Monday, August 7, with a roster of 30 players in grades 9-12.
 First-year Cyclone head coach Willie Baughman, a varsity assistant the last two years, inherits a program that finished 20-18 overall last year and placed fifth in the Hawkeye 10 Conference with a record of 6-4.
 HCHS returns seven letter winners from a year ago, led by first-team all-conference libero Sidney Craig, who posted team-high numbers in digs (401), serving (361-for-380, 95 percent) and aces (40). Also back are second-team all-conference hitters Haley Leinen (230 kills, .347 kill eff., 68 blocks) and Lexi Larsen (188 kills, .215 kill eff., 39 aces). Kara Weis, last year’s assist leader with 874, is also back in the mix.
 The Cyclones will scrimmage at the Atlantic Volleyball Clinic this Saturday and open the 2017 season by hosting the Cyclone Tournament on Saturday, August 26, at 8:30 a.m.
