Baseball honors roll in for Cyclones’ Sears

DES MOINES -- The postseason honors have continued to pile up this month for Harlan Community senior shortstop Dillon Sears.
The Western Illinois recruit played in the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association All-Star Series August 3-6 and was named the team MVP for Small Schools West. Sears’ team went 3-1 during weekend games in the Des Moines metro area and beat Smalls Schools East for the championship.
The IHSBCA also named Sears to its 2017 All-State “Super Team,” an elite group of 16 players from all four classes in Iowa. Dillon’s younger brother Brett Sears, a Cyclone sophomore, was named to the IHSBCA’s Class 3-A All-State Second Team as a pitcher.
More recently, Dillon Sears was cited as the Council Bluffs Daily Nonpareil’s All-Area Baseball Player of the Year. He was also selected as the 4A/3A captain of the Omaha World-Herald’s All-Western Iowa teams.
Also a first-team All-Conference, All-District and INA All-State selection, Sears batted .438 for the Cyclones this season and led the team with 45 stolen bases, 58 runs scored and six triples. He finished his career as the program’s all-time leader with 137 stolen bases and 18 triples.
Sears helped HCHS compile a 148-33 record during his varsity career, which included five trips to the state tournament, one state title and two runner-up finishes in Class 3-A.
