Baseball: HCHS scores 13 straight runs in 15-8 win at West
SIOUX CITY -- Trailing 8-2 after two innings, Harlan Community finished the game with 13 unanswered runs to win at Sioux City West, 15-8, last Wednesday (June 28).
HCHS took the lead for good with a seven-run fifth inning, outhit West 14-7 and overcame five errors in the field to hand the Wolverines (10-18) their 12th straight loss.
The relief pitching efforts of senior Jacob Croghan and freshman Connor Bruck shut down West’s bats and allowed the Cyclones (22-2) to come back and win. Croghan (4-0) took over for Nick Foss in the second inning and did not allow a hit or a walk in three innings. Bruck also pitched three scoreless frames to earn his third save.
Harlan’s 14-hit attack included Ryan Doran’s fifth home run of the year as part of a 2-for-3, three RBI game. He also doubled, walked twice and scored three runs.
