Baseball: HCHS routs Atlantic behind nine-run fifth

ATLANTIC -- Eleven wins, no losses and eight instances of the 10-run mercy rule.
Victory won’t come this easy all summer long for the Harlan Community baseball team, but the top-ranked Cyclones are certainly enjoying their current ride to start the 2017 season.
HCHS improved to 8-0 in the Hawkeye Ten Conference (11-0 overall) Tuesday night with a 13-3, five-inning win at Atlantic, breaking open a close game with nine runs in the top of the fifth.
Ryan Doran homered for the second straight night and was one of five Cyclone batters with two hits, joined by Jared Moser, Brett Sears, Joshua Cheek and Nick Foss. Together, those five combined to score 10 runs and drive in 11. Foss, who singled and doubled, led the team with four RBI and Doran had three. Moser scored a team-high three runs and also had three of the team’s seven stolen bases.
