Baseball: Five-run seventh lifts HCHS past Kuemper

 CARROLL (June 12) -- Harlan Community broke open a 3-3 tie with five two-out runs in the top of the seventh inning Tuesday night and finished off Kuemper Catholic 8-4 to sweep the season series.
 HCHS junior Brett Sears (4-0) pitched his first complete game of the year and beat Kuemper for the second time, allowing eight hits and three earned runs. He struck out 12 batters and walked just one.
 Luke Schaben led the third-ranked (3A) Cyclones with two hits, Jared Moser doubled and scored twice and Nick Foss had two RBI.
 HCHS took leads of 1-0 in the second inning and 3-1 in the fifth only to have the Knights tie the score each time.
 With two out in the seventh and Jacob Bartley on second base, Kuemper starter Austin Tigges was relieved on the mound by Ben Berg, who proceeded to force in a run by walking two batters and hitting another. Foss followed with a two-run single, a run-scoring wild pitch made it 7-3 and Schaben’s RBI single capped the five-run outburst.
