Baseball: Exira-EHK pounds 16 hits in 12-2 win at Boyer Valley

 DUNLAP (June 17) -- The Spartan bats came alive for 16 hits here Monday night as the Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton baseball team beat Boyer Valley 12-2 to complete a season sweep.
 Three big innings keyed the win for Exira-EHK (4-7, 3-6 Rolling Valley Conference), which put together a three-run first, a three-run fourth and a four-run seventh, outhitting the Bulldogs 16-4 with six extra-base hits.
 Spartan seniors Cole Burmeister, Trey Nelson and Josh Pettepier all finished 3-for-5 and drove in at least two runs. Burmeister had a double and a triple among his hits, stole three bases and scored three runs. Pettepier doubled and led the team with three RBI. Three other Spartans added two hits each: Anthony Kingery was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored; Tyler Petersen was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI; and Dawson Carey went 2-for-4 with a double.
 Burmeister (1-1) earned his first pitching win of the year, allowing four hits and two unearned runs in six innings. He walked just one and notched 10 strikeouts before Nelson pitched a hitless seventh with two Ks.
