Exira-EHK 11, Woodbine 1 (5)
 WOODBINE -- Macy Emgartner struck out 12 Woodbine batters in five innings and eighth-grader Shay Burmeister had five of the team’s nine stolen bases as Exira-EHK rolled past the Tigers 11-1 in last Monday’s season opener.
 Emgartner, a second-year varsity freshman, allowed three hits, two walks and one unearned run from the pitching circle. Burmeister singled, drew three walks and scored three runs to lead the offense. Also getting one hit each for the Spartans were Alisa Partridge, Mollie Rasmussen, Kami Waymire (double), Quinn Grubbs and Makenzie Riley. Rasmussen and Riley both scored two runs while Partridge and Waymire had two RBI.
Wednesday, May 22
Coon Rapids-Bayard 7, Exira-EHK 1
 COON RAPIDS -- The host Crusaders broke open a close game with four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and beat the Spartans 7-1 last Wednesday night. CR-B standouts included Kristin Mahlberg (3-for-4, 1 triple, 2 runs, 2 RBI) and Katelyn Winnett (2-for-4, double, triple).
 Exira-EHK managed just three hits - singles by Kami Waymire (1 RBI), Tatum Grubbs (1 run) and Quinn Grubbs. Macy Emgartner took the loss, allowing 11 hits and five earned runs in six innings. She walked three and struck out seven.
Thursday, May 23
Riverside 6, AHSTW 3
 AVOCA -- The Lady Vikes’ late rally attempt fell short last Thursday in a 6-3 season-opening loss to Riverside. AHSTW was unable to overcome a 5-0 deficit through four innings.
 Natalie Hagadon led the Lady Vikes at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double, one run and one RBI. Kailey Jones also hit a double and Katie Anzalone singled home a run. Jones took the pitching loss, allowing 10 hits and five earned runs in seven innings. She issued just one walk and struck out four.
Friday, May 24
Missouri Valley 9, IKM-Manning 3
 MISSOURI VALLEY -- Following two rainouts, IKM-Manning opened the season with a 9-3 loss against a Lady Reds team playing its third game. Mo. Valley’s Ashlyn Cook pitched a complete game, allowing seven hits, walking five and striking out eight.
 Bianca Cadwell (one triple, one run) and Joanna Freese (one RBI) both went 2-for-3 for the Wolves, Zoey Melton doubled home a run and Lexi Branning and Emily Kerkhoff both added a single. Cadwell took the loss in her first full game as a varsity pitcher, allowing eight hits and nine runs (four earned) in six innings.
Treynor 10, AHSTW 2
 TREYNOR -- The Lady Vikes dropped to 0-2 last Friday following a 10-2 loss at sixth-ranked (3A) Treynor, which got three hits and three runs scored from catcher Bella Dingus.
 Paige Osweiler and Ally Meyers both singled for AHSTW’s only two hits. Katie Anzalone and Baylee Meyers scored the runs. Ally Meyers pitched all six innings for AHSTW, allowing nine hits and seven earned runs. She walked none and struck out two. Treynor’s Sydni Huisman struck out 12 Lady Vikes.
