Area athletes win four events at BVU indoor meet

 STORM LAKE (March 15) -- Led by Amos Rasmussen’s double gold in the long jump and 60-meter dash, area athletes won four events at the BVU High School Elite Indoor Track Meet here Friday.
 Girls and boys athletes from Harlan Community, IKM-Manning and AHSTW competed in the first meet of the year.
 The Cyclone boys, who also competed at Northwest Missouri State on Saturday, took a partial squad to the Buena Vista meet but did have a one-two finish in the shot put as Caleb Bieker won with a throw of 46 feet, eight inches and Derec Weyer was second with a toss of 46-2.
 Rasmussen, a freshman from IKM-M, won the long jump (19-6) and also took first in the 60 dash (7.21).
 AHSTW’s Ryann Portch opened her junior season with a first-place time of 2:27.26 in the 800-meter run. She also anchored the Lady Vikes to fifth in the distance medley relay and seventh in the 4x400.
 The HCHS girls’ top events included third place in the 4x200, 4x400 and shuttle hurdle relays and fourth place in the 4x800.
 Alexa Ahrenholtz placed second in the high jump and Lexi Branning took fourth in the shot put for the IKM-Manning girls.
 The AHSTW boys’ top finishes came from Drake Partridge, who placed fourth in the 60 and seventh in the 200.
