2017 Co-Ed State Track & Field Championships
DES MOINES -- The girls and boys track teams from Harlan Community, AHSTW, IKM-Manning and Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton have combined to qualify 26 entries for this week’s Co-Ed State Track and Field Championships at Drake Stadium (May 18-20).
The HCHS girls and boys teams will take the most events to state with eight and six qualifiers, respectively. The AHSTW boys have qualified five events, followed by the IKM-Manning and AHSTW girls and the Exira-EHK boys with two events each. The IKM-M boys have one state qualifer.
State qualifiers were determined by Thursday’s State Qualifying Meets at three separate sites. Of the area’s 26 qualified entries, nine posted performances that rank in the top 12 of their event and class (based solely on Thursday’s statewide results). The highest-ranked area qualifiers include HCHS senior Gillian Streit in the discus (2nd), AHSTW junior Gage Clay in the 100-meter dash (2nd) and the 200 dash (4th), AHSTW senior Jaycie Schueman in the 400-meter hurdles (7th) and the HCHS girls 4x200 relay (8th).
State meet competition will begin for Class 1-A and 4-A teams on Thursday morning at 9:00 a.m., followed by 2-A and 3-A competition from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. The same schedule format will be used on Friday while the Saturday session will mix finals from all four classes throughout the day.
Below is a state meet schedule for all of the area qualifiers. Starting times are approximate as the meet may run ahead of schedule. Heat, section and lane assignments are also included, along with each event’s State Qualifying Meet performance and ranking.
