1A District Baseball: Wolves advance past Rockets on odd ending

COON RAPIDS (July 13) -- Trailing 5-1 early on, the IKM-Manning baseball team rallied to keep its season alive here Saturday with a 7-6 win over Ar-We-Va in a Class 1A district quarterfinal.
The game ended in bizarre fashion in the bottom of the seventh as the Rockets threatened to tie the score or win. With runners at second and third and two out, the Ar-We-Va runner on second was suddenly ejected from the game without warning for a comment made to the base umpire. Since the Rockets did not have any subs available to run, the game ended via forfeit.
IKM-Manning senior Alex Lingle (3-4) pitched all seven innings for the win, allowing four hits and just one earned run. He walked four and struck out a season-high 10.
Lingle (2 RBI) and Jerod Henkelman both went 2-for-4 with a double and one run scored at the plate while Dane Blom was 2-for-5 with one RBI. Max Nielsen hit his first home run of the year for IKM-M and Amos Rasmussen and Keaton Allmon both had singles.
IKM-M (7-16) will return to action Tuesday (July 16) for a district semifinal game at ninth-ranked Coon Rapids-Bayard (26-4).
