Former HCHS Supt. and Economic Development Director Bob Broomfield died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2017

LINCOLN, NE - Funeral services are Sat., Nov. 18 at 11 a.m. at the First Plymouth Church, Lincoln, NE for three-time HCHS Supt. Bob Broomfield who died on Thursday, Nov. 9 in his sleep at their home. Broomfield and his wife, MJ, were also the co-directors of  Shelby County's economic development arm, called Developsource from 2010-2013.

Robert James (Bob) Broomfield, 73, passed away on November 9, 2017, unexpectedly, yet peacefully, at his home in Lincoln. The son of James and Geneva (Ruggles) Broomfield, he was born June 8, 1944, in McCook. He had two older siblings, Elda and Bill. They were raised on a farm in Red Willow County. Bob attended McCook Community College on a football, basketball and track scholarship and then graduated from Doane College on a track scholarship. He spent most of his professional life as a superintendent of schools.

Bob enjoyed a full life and never met a stranger. He enjoyed the simple pleasures best. He enjoyed sports, reading, hunting, spending time with his grandchildren, the great outdoors, a good story and happy hour. Bob had few regrets as he lived life to the fullest, always did the best he could to be productive, and understood that the rest is up to God.

Bob is survived by his wife MJ; three children, Kelly, Rob (Jackie), Carrie (Ryan) Sullivan; five grandchildren, Megan, Nick, Max, Payton, and Jameson; two step-children, Becky (Nate) Michel, Carolyn (Chris) Ledy; and two step-grandchildren, Owen and Noah Michel; sister, Elda Powley, many nieces, nephews, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother William “Bill” Broomfield and brother-in-law Ben Powley.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 18, at First-Plymouth Congregational Church, 2000 D St, Lincoln, with Rev. Barbara Smisek officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family for future designation to local area cancer research in memory of his mother, Geneva (Ruggles) Broomfield. www.bmlfh.com.
