Variety Distributors celebrates 70 years

    HARLAN -- Variety Distributors, Inc. is celebrating their 70th anniversary. A dream that started in the 1940s lives on today.
    “I would say the main thing is know that you’re supplying the independent ma and pa’s in the small towns around the 46 states that we ship to and understanding that we are their lifeline,” said Don Lantz, COO of Variety Distributors.
    During World War II, there was mistrust in merchants, as many thought they were greedy and failed to give the fair share of merchandise that was in the highest demand. There was no organization that variety stores could turn to for guidance in troublesome situations.
