Playing “farm” still great hobby for Harlan’s Smith

HARLAN -- In the late 1940s, Chuck Smith could be found playing “farm” with his brothers in the grove at the age of 10. With walnuts as pigs and acorns as horses, he would dig fields in the dirt.
Now, 65 years later, he’s still playing farm, but with decades of toys. Chuck began collecting model farms nearly 35 years ago.
As Chuck and his wife, Fay, brought their three children on road trips to visit relatives or go on family vacations, they needed a way to get out of the car. With signs indicating an antique shop ahead, they began a tradition of stopping.
