Panama’s Schmidt sees her life as a tapestry

PANAMA -- “When I was a teacher, I told this story. It was about an Indian woman, she was a grandma, and she would tell her grandson, ‘When I get finished weaving this tapestry, I will die.’ So, at night he would go out and he would unravel part of it,” Ellen Schmidt of Panama said.
Schmidt sees her life as a tapestry.
“Every day I either put in something or take out of it,” Schmidt said.
Schmidt was born in Bismark, ND as the eighth of 11 children. Her family moved to Nebraska and then to Kansas where she attended Mount St. Scholastica Academy in high school.
    Her parents were both Catholic.
