Jeff Schmitz speaks at tax public hearing

Agri-businessman takes Myrtue to task for lack of accountability, leadership
Mr. Jacobsen owes the community and the employees of Myrtue an explanation of what is happening at Myrtue that is straight and to the point." Resident Jeff Schmitz

HARLAN - Harlan agri-businessman Jeff Schmitz spent seven minutes voicing his concerns about the lack of accountability and leadership at Myrtue Medical Center by its administration and board of trustees during a tax levy public hearing here on Tuesday, Feb. 23.  The trustees later passed the 10 percent tax levy increase with no comments or discussion.
Schmitz challenged the elected board of trustees, which he said is the public’s eyes, ears and voice, to challenge Myrtue’s leadership. “Making them (administration) accountable is your job and if you’re just sitting there shaking your head yes to everything – resign immediately putting people into place who will hold the leadership accountable,” said Schmitz.
