Valuations higher, bringing in more tax dollars --

HARLAN – Harlan property owners will see a decrease in their tax levy this year as part of a proposed budget approved by the Harlan City Council Tuesday, March 8.
A public hearing on the proposed $8.32 million budget for the 2016-17 fiscal year was held Tuesday with no comments from the public.  The Harlan City Council approved the measure 5-0.

The owner of a home with an assessed value of $100,000 will see an approximate decrease in the Harlan city portion of their taxes of $11.64 annually, while the owner of a home with assessed value of $200,000 will see an approximate decrease of $23.88 per year (taking into consideration the annual 55.6259 percent rollback, homestead exemption and increase in valuations on the home).
