Harlan Fire Department aims to form association

    HARLAN -- The Harlan Fire Department is in the process of forming an association in an effort to help with financial clarity regarding donations made to the department each year.
    The Harlan City Council has given its blessing to the department as it seeks to develop the Harlan Fire Association.
    Harlan Fire Chief Roger Bissen said it’s an issue that has been discussed statewide in recent months.
    “We had other departments around the state that have gathered some attention of whether they were an association, whether they were incorporated, or if they were not incorporated and [if they were] spending money that might have been questionable if it could have been spent as government money,” Bissen said.
