Harlan FFA participates in district conference

    HARLAN -- Harlan FFA members competed at Southwest Iowa District FFA Career Development Events on Saturday, March 2 at Glenwood High School.
Iowa FFA Degree Candidates
    Nine members have cleared the first hurdle in an effort to earn their Iowa FFA Degree. Lucy Borkowski, Grace Kenkel, Hannah Tunender, Mallie Boell, Andrew Schechinger, Courtney Mumm, Abigail Jacobsen, Wyatt Obrecht, and Allen Fries will represent the Harlan FFA as Iowa FFA Degree candidates.
    The Iowa FFA Degree is the highest award bestowed by the State FFA Association and is a culmination of 3-4 years of work each member has invested in the FFA on the local, district, and state levels and record keeping over their Supervised Agricultural Experience project.
Officer Book Results
    Each year the Harlan FFA reporters and secretaries prepare record keeping entries for the district career development event contest.
    The Harlan FFA reporters, Allyssa Obrecht and Abigail Jacobsen, prepared the chapter scrapbook, which received a 2nd place gold rating. This placement qualified the book for the state competition. The Harlan FFA secretaries, Bobbie Schechinger and Grace Kenkel, earned a silver rating for the secretary’s book, which included meeting attendance, agendas, and minutes.

Development Results
    Carter Wagner represented Harlan FFA by running for a Southwest Iowa District FFA Officer position for the 2019-2020 school year. He was elected to the vice president position, after completing a round of interviews, taking a test, and giving a speech and answering questions in front of the voting delegates at the business session.
    Cameron Springman, Ryleigh Obrecht, Stephanie Scheuring, Paola Gonzalez, and Braxton Gaul participated in the Ag Career and Science Investigation contest designed for junior high students.
