Final in a series - Rich History....

Potter House has a lot of history, and now is a thriving bed and breakfast

HARLAN -- As Joyce Gradoville stepped into 1012 Baldwin St., she knew immediately that she was home.  However, Gradoville didn’t realize that her future bed and breakfast would have such a rich history.
“I love the house, I absolutely love it,” Gradoville said, as she learned more about the history of the place.
Levi Franklin Potter was born in 1855 in the Milwaukee area. After moving around multiple times in his early life, he landed in Oakland in 1879 with two horses and a wagon.
Levi caught the attention of Martha Wood, and quickly married her in 1881.
As a starting job he taught school in Oakland for three years and bought half of a mercantile store for $488 which became the Caldwell and Potter store. The investment lasted until 1884, when he sold his share to his brother-in-law.
