Controlled burn helps local firefighters with training

HARLAN -- Local firefighters held a controlled burn Saturday, May 19 at a vacant home in east Harlan.  Prior to the training burn on Saturday, local firefighters had used the structure three times for training new firefighters.

The department’s Firefighter I class started back in January and the students will have their written test at the end of May and practical skills will be the first week in June.
The class consisted of 20 new firefighters from around the area, and out of the 20 students, six new firefighters were from Harlan. On the day of the training burn there were 15 in attendance.
