City moves ahead with CDBG housing, downtown applications

HARLAN – The City of Harlan is moving forward with grant applications that, if approved, would provide funding for downtown rehabilitation and housing rehabilitation within the city.
The Harlan City Council Tuesday, Dec. 15 unanimously passed a resolution authorizing the city to apply for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) housing fund monies, for assistance to a housing rehabilitation program.
If this grant is approved, monies would be made available from The Iowa Economic Development Authority’s (IEDA) program for owner-occupied housing rehabilitation.  Up to 10 homes could receive funding for rehabilitation costs totaling $24,999 for each home.  Individual homeowners will apply to the city for funding if the grant is secured.
