City administrator’s expense reports questioned

Allegedly requested reimbursement for “free” hotel room
I agree that was wrong. Call it dumb....stupid." -- Terry Cox, Harlan City Administrator

HARLAN – Harlan City Administrator Terry Cox admitted last week that he wrongly submitted a reimbursement request for a hotel room that was provided to him for free, and he’s now facing some serious questions from city officials who are further investigating Cox’s expense reports.
Harlan City Council members questioned Cox Wednesday, April 20 at a meeting of the Personnel and Finance Committee about expenses related to recent conferences he had attended, and the expense reports related to those meetings.
In particular, Cox allegedly requested reimbursement for the cost of a hotel room in Kansas City in March, where he attended a Mid-America APWA (American Public Works Association) conference.  According to city officials, the room was “comped” and provided to Cox at no cost, yet he provided a handwritten receipt for $60.30 to the city for reimbursement of the room.
